What If The Avengers Formed in the 1500s?
Black Panther artist Francesco Francavilla has dreamt up a roster for the Avengers circa the Age of Discovery. Meet Earth’s First Heroes, a team that includes “Captain Amerigo” and a Celtic Hulk.
The artist created this piece for the always entertaining Comic Twart blog.
Says Francavilla:
So I give you, for the first time I think, Hulk the Druid (a celtic primeval force of nature), Captain Amerigo (from the New World), Thor himself, and an unknown mysterious clad-armored gladiator known as Iron Man. Together they are The AVENGERS, EARTH’s FIRST HEROES and they fight evils and undead armies.

@Marvel Minimates cosplayers (via @DarkShinobiNeo1) Part of a series of photos by Nikejerk3 on Flickr. My favorites are probably Captain America and Wolverine, but they’re all pretty rad!

Jumping on to Thor:
I knew you guys would help a fellow reader out. :) Here are all the (unanimous) answers in one post, rather than spamming your dashes:
thedrysalvages: J. Michael Straczynski and Olivier Coipel’s run is a perfect starting place for people looking to get into Thor. :). I believe it is Volume 3, and starts off at #1 until #600.
ssusiessays: I’d start the new Thor continuity at the start of the j. michael straczynski stuff. The first 3 trades are out, and the 4th shouldn’t be too much longer. Then do a little bit of back work, leading up to Seige. After that, you’re home free. (:
agent00ice: I’d say the best jumping on-point is with the new #1 when JMS was writing it. It’s not too far back, so going from there and getting the series continuing into the renumbered #600 and further is best. Plus, Thor #3 by JMS and Coipel is still my favorite issue. Thor vs Iron Man from after Civil War.
gonsmithe: The best Thor jumping on point is the beginning of J. Michael Straczynski’s run. It’s Volume 3, starting with Thor Volume 3 #1, and eventually goes to the normal numbering of the Thor comics. iirc, they are releasing a hardcover/paperback of his entire run soon (they are available separately atm).
THOR Cast.
Left to right: Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Kat Dennings as Darcy, Kenneth Branagh (director),Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster.

You know how there’s a matching Thor copy? I picked up a free poster of it at Comic Con the other day. :D
Thar she blows. (submission)
Thank you! I was too rushed/lazy the other night to find the image itself. I’m framing it as soon as I can and it’s going up on my wall.
